These terms cover the Eterna extension, as distributed through the Chrome Web Store, and this website.
1. About Eterna and these terms
Eterna is a personal notebook for Chrome that brings notes, tasks, events, reminders, people, and a scratchpad into the side panel and new tab page. These terms describe use of the Eterna extension and this website. “The developer” means the person or entity providing Eterna.
Eterna is free, requires no account and has no checkout, subscription, or paid plan. These terms do not create a payment obligation. Any future paid offering would need its own disclosed terms before you choose it.
Use Eterna only if you can lawfully do so and agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the extension. You can still export your existing notebook before uninstalling it.
2. Permission to use the product
You may use an authorized copy of Eterna for your own lawful personal or work-related note-taking and organization, subject to these terms. This permission does not transfer ownership of the software, branding, or website to you.
Do not sell or redistribute Eterna, misrepresent an altered copy as an official release, or use its name or artwork in a way that suggests the developer endorses you. These limits do not restrict rights you have under applicable law or the separate licenses of included third-party components.
3. Your content and responsibilities
You keep your rights in the notes, images, and other material you add to Eterna. Eterna does not claim ownership of your writing. Its local processing lets you save, organize, display, search, and export the content on your device.
Only save or share material you have the right to use. This includes text clipped from websites, images, and personal information about other people. Respect applicable copyright, privacy, confidentiality, and other obligations. A saved source link is useful attribution; it does not grant permission to reuse someone else’s work.
Keep your device, browser profile, and backup files secure. If you use Eterna for work, follow your organization’s rules about storing its information on a device or in a personal browser profile.
4. Local storage and backups
Eterna saves notebook content locally in your browser profile. It does not currently provide an online account, cloud sync, or a developer-held recovery copy. Uninstalling Eterna, clearing browser data, resetting a profile, device loss, or a software or hardware problem can cause data loss.
Use Settings → Back up now regularly, keep a copy somewhere safe, and make a backup before uninstalling or moving devices. The .eterna file contains your notebook entries, note images, and settings. Your custom Home background photo is not included. A backup is not encrypted by Eterna, so treat it as sensitive if its contents are sensitive.
Restoring a backup can add entries or update older versions. Review the restore preview before confirming. Deleting content in Eterna does not remove copies in exported backups or other locations. The developer cannot recover content that only existed on your device.
5. Reminders and availability
Eterna’s reminders and focus timer are everyday organization tools. Notifications depend on Chrome running, the device being available, and browser and operating-system settings. Reminders missed while Chrome is closed may appear when it starts again. A test accepted by the browser does not guarantee a visible notification.
Do not rely on Eterna as the only reminder for emergencies, medical treatment, safety-critical activities, legal deadlines, or other situations where a late or missing reminder could cause significant harm. Keep another reliable way to track important commitments.
Features, photo availability, and compatibility can change as Eterna and Chrome evolve. These terms are not a promise that every planned feature will ship or that service will always be uninterrupted or error-free.
6. Chrome, photographs, and other services
Eterna runs within Chrome and replaces its new tab page. Chrome’s own terms and extension controls also apply. You can change extension permissions or disable Eterna through the browser.
The daily photo background is optional. When you choose it, a fresh photo each day comes from a Vercel-hosted service and Unsplash; this is on by default, and you can turn it off in Settings. External links and photographs may be unavailable or change, and their providers have their own terms, privacy policies, and content rights.
Third-party fonts, icons, libraries, and photographs remain subject to their respective licenses. Viewing a photograph in Eterna does not grant you ownership or unrestricted redistribution rights. See our Privacy Policy for the photo connections and other data practices.
7. Responsible use
Do not use Eterna or this website to violate applicable law or another person’s rights. Do not interfere with the website or photo service, attempt unauthorized access to someone else’s information, or distribute malicious software through the product.
The developer may change or discontinue the website, photo service, or future distribution of the extension. Keep your own backups so your ability to retain your writing does not depend on continued availability of any service.
8. Product limits and your legal rights
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Eterna is provided as available, without a promise that it will suit every purpose or operate without interruption, defects, or data loss. Use your judgment about what to store and which activities to rely on it for.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits a right, warranty, remedy, or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Any responsibility for loss is determined under applicable law. These terms do not require arbitration, waive class-action rights, or select a jurisdiction or court.
9. Ending use and changes
You can stop using Eterna at any time. Export a backup first if you want to keep your content, then disable or uninstall the extension. Uninstalling removes its local data; it does not delete files you already exported.
The developer may update these terms to reflect product changes or applicable requirements. The date on this page will identify the current edition. Material changes that need additional notice or agreement will be handled as required by applicable law.
10. Questions
For questions about Eterna or these policies, email devbysagar@gmail.com. Include only the information needed to explain your request. Do not send your notebook or a backup unless you choose to share that content.
